Help on extension lead power

    Hi all,

    I am looking into using two electrical items but am stuck on how i am going to power them up as i will be using them in the garden and there is no near electrical socket to plug them into, the appliances are as follows:

    George Foreman Grill:

    220-240V
    1650-1960W

    Russell Hobs Griddle:

    220-240V
    2000-2400W

    I was wondering if a extension lead would do or is that too much power for one?

    Any ideas would be most welcome.

    Earthed electrical appliances are NOT to be used or recommended outdoors. Only double insulated garden tools and lighting. I suggest you consider using a propane gas barbecue as a much safer alternative.

    As for an external 240v AC supply you will need to contact a Part P registered electrician for advice on the best suitable options to meet your needs. And for further safety advice.

    Well, about 3000 Watts is the max you should be able to get from a good 13 Amp socket so running that lot from one will likely blow the fuse or the socket, potentially a fire hazard.

    So, your thinking was correct, it’s too much for one socket or extension lead I expect.

    Also if you’re outdoors you really must have them on an RCD as well so you’ll need to check the load capabilities for that also. Not having that is extremely inadvisable and potentially extremely dangerous.

    Thanks for the replies, i fully understand the risks with using the appliances outdoors.

    I know 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} that the appliances will not be in contact with rain as they will be used under shelter.

    Maybe this would work……?

    1 x George foreman plugged into a 13amp heavy duty outdoor extension cord and run into a socket in my house that is fitted with a RCD

    1 x Russell Hobbs plugged into a 13amp heavy duty outdoor extension cord and run into a socket in my house that is fitted with a RCD

    Both the above on separate extension cords and on different sockets in the house.

    I wouldn’t but, depends how the house is wired and so forth whether it’ll work and not pop something on your main consumer unit.

    But using those sorts of things on extension leads is highly inadvisable at the best of times.
