    Hello everyone,
I have a question as I’m moving in a new house and yesterday when I was there cleaning, my son just turned the knobs of the stove and the gas started flowing out. I always had stoves where you needed to press the knob to get the gas flows. Is there any possibilities that something has broken? Or is there anything we can add to get the gas flows after pressing not only turning? I also noted that the flames are very high compared to the standards.
I’m a bit worried because lots of gas went out in a few seconds.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Re: Stove knobs

there is noting you can do to add a push and turn feature on your existing hob. As far as I know all hobs have a push and turn knob and some of the later ones have a thermocouple which means you have to hold the knob down for about 8 seconds otherwise the flame will go out. this also means if the gas blows out the gas supply will stop after 30 secs or so.
As for the flame height it depends on what you are seeing. is it blue or yellow flame . if yellow could be a lack of air caused by dirt.
if you are in any doubt of its safety get it checked by a gas safe engineer or change it as basic gas hobs are not that expensive

    Thanks fo your reply.
I actually never seen knobs that only turning let the gas flows. Is it possible that there’s something broken? Or missed during the installation of the stove? It doesn’t look like a really old cooker and it’s Kenwood, so a good brand. It’s weird the knobs work like that.
I’ll check the flame as soon as I go there again today.
If I remember well, the flame was blue with yellow ends.
I’ll send you pictures if I can.

    Re: Stove knobs

nothing can be broken on installation, wear and tear is possible but would be unlikely to affect all 4 knobs

Kenwood is a badge name for Curry’s mainly produced on cooking products by De Longhi. Sadly it sits at the budget end, that said spares are usually readily available and affordable which is good news.

The model number of the Kenwood would be great if you can 🙂
