ParticipantHello,
Hoping this is a simple fix but the fridge freezer will not turn off. Its got a dial thermostat in the fridge compartment that is set to minimum and the compressor just stays running all the time maybe turning off once a day. The fridge is very cold and starting to freeze vegetables and the freezer section also very very cold. We have defrosted the fridge also but this has made no difference to the operation. This seems to be a frost free freezer section but we turned it off over night.
Can anyone help?
Regards

you’ll need to get the back cover off the freezer and have a look at the evap. If its heavily iced 24 hrs wont clear it and the air flow will still be restricted. Check the ice coverage is uniform and right to the end of the evap, if its heavily iced in the top half and practically no ice on the bottom half, its either short of refrigerant or the compressors going down, either will require a fridge engineer, if its uniformly iced, defrost it till all the ice goes away then check the heater, inline fuses and thermostats in the defrost circuit to find whats stopping it defrosting .

Ok bit of an update… parts came today but before we proceed with taking them out the packet wanted to check its worth doing as might as well return the parts if they not gonna be any good.
Took the back cover off the freezer after I noticed a fair bit of ice build up on the floor of the freezer, the drain is blocked with ice so doesn’t like the defrost is working properly but the coil was relatively clear. Frosting is at the top only of the evaporator coil only. I note though that only the first half is really cold the rest started getting condensation with the cover off. To note also that the other day the freezer started thawing out so we had to leave it off over night to reset it it. The fridge was also getting warm. Since we have put it back on the fridge has not been as cold whereas the fridge was very cold before along with the freezer. The majority of the condensor coil on the back is cool with one side left a couple of inches of it that are hot.The compressor is very very hot but no abnormal noises other than the refrigerant making a noise. See picture and I have also done a video of the sound…

def looks like youve got an internal leak which means youd need a fridge eng to top it up, even then its a short term fix, if it is leaking it will do so again
