ParticipantOur 30 month old Indesit XWA81682XWUK is getting noisy, and there’s a distinct ‘rumble’ in the bearings when the drum is turned by hand. Looking around it seems the bearings cannot be replaced, and I need to buy a whole drum assembly (C00285584).
The page (http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buyi … ould-care/) is very helpful, but disappointing.
Seems to me that spending £150 and a fair amount of time to replace the drum is pointless, when I can buy a new warrantied washing machine for £300 when this one finally gets too noisy?
What a silly way to make things…. 😯

unless it is covered by a 5 year part warranty then all you will pay is their labour charge as the part will be free

Thanks Dave, that was really helpful. I hadn’t thought to check out what warranty might be available. Our machine is covered for 5yrs parts only, fixed charge of £120 for labour. Even better, we were still eligible to buy extended parts & labour warranty at £60pa. I decided to buy the parts & labour cover, because I suspect the drum will need replacing within 12 months.
One final question – how long should I leave it before requesting repair? The spin is definitely noisier and the bearing has an audible rumble, but the machine is still “working” – some people might not have even noticed it. Should I wait until there’s some more obvious symptoms, or will a service engineer immediately recognise the required work?

Get it sorted ASAP,
If the bearings collapse or seize totally that can damage other components.

If you have only recently taken out the additional cover the ‘terms & conditions’ should state when claims would be acceptable. Normally between 3 and 6 months I would guess.
