ParticipantHello all – I have a Hotpoint WMUD843P washing machine and I have to replace the linear water level / pressure switch (thin wires going to it electronic type with chip inside) – I have found one on ebay (brand new) but it says “note this is a 3 wire version and not compatible with 4 wire version” so I have lifted the lid on mine and indeed it has 4 thin blue wires .. but here is the interesting thing, when I split open the pressure/ level switch the circuit board inside the level switch only has 3 contacts, seems like even though there is 4 blue wires going to the switch there are only 3 metal contacts used – any ideas on what I should order? – if there are ony 3 metal contacts can I get away with ordering a 3 wire level switch even though there are 4 wires going to it?
Thanks.April 13, 2017 at 7:42 pm #446810iadom

Apart from the fact that you have now opened up the switch, why do you ‘need’ to replace it?
You should always replace with the correct part.
If you give us the full serial number and commercial code we can give you the correct part number.

I screwed the adjustment screw too far down and mangled it – thats why I need to replace it – found a brand new one on ebay for 15 quid but it said for 3wire

First things first, there is absolutely no need to try and adjust these pressure switches, ever. :rolls:
Trying to adjust them to get more water in the drum is just futile.
There are two different switches for your machine, you need a C00381612, list price is only £16.50, no point buying suspect parts on Flea Bay. 😉
PS: Dr Dill hasn’t posted for a while so the worst you will get from me is :rolls: smiley.

Thank you for your reply and your advice ….. I most probably will adjust the new one again (but not down as much) because thats just what I do, I like tinkering :tools: and at factory default there simply isnt enough water level in the drum for my liking when washing. I had it just right with water level coming up to lip of door gasket but the other day I just went that bit further and screwed it a bit more to get it over the lip and then got error when rinsing , but then couldnt screw it out again.
Thanks again for your reply and help.April 14, 2017 at 7:06 am #446815Martin
