My trusty 20 year old AEG OKO Lavamat 6100 Digitronic machine now makes an extremely loud noise when spinning. It sounds like a jet engine taking off and I seriously fear for our hearing! I assume it is something to do with the drum, which I understand may be difficult to replace. Can anyone please tell me whether it is worth trying to get it repaired or whether we are likely to have to replace the machine come what may? The E-number is 605.648372, F-number is 106/683341.

If you can take the back off then remove the drive belt, then open the door and give the drum a quick spin round by hand. If it is noisy when you do that then the drum bearings have failed, if It is nice quiet and smooth then the main motor bearings could be faulty.

Either way an expensive repair and main bearings become very expensive if left for any length of time making a noise.

Be sure to remove the mains plug first.
