ParticipantHi,
Before I plump for a new oven, figured it was worth asking…
Today our oven just stopped working: no clock, no lights, nothing. There was a plastic-like smell of burning at this point and it was then switched at the isolator. No blown fuses. I popped it out of the cupboard and took the top off. There are signs of things getting hot, scorching etc, but we’d not not long replaced the main cooling fan which gave up and I think it was no worse than before. One of the two thermal switches (Campini TY60 120 deg) has partially melted by one terminal. I assume these switches are for the cooling fan.
I checked the rear element which has been replaced several times in the past and that looks fine – they’ve previously failed with bulges… In the past, a failure has tripped the fuse box and resetting has brought us back to working (apart form the failed element of course).
I’m guessing that something more terminal has happened here but anyone have any bright ideas of what to check before I spend cash on replacing it?
Thanks.

when units go completely dead you have to check the mains side first
wall switch, cable and connector block

Thanks Dave.
I’ve verified that mains power is making it to the oven. I tested a wire that comes up from the rear of the oven inside to the control board and it’s live.
Without a schematic, I’m not sure where to go next.
Cheers.

Thanks, power is fine and no obvious damage to the board. In the end, I got another oven. It seemed to be beyond a basic repair (element and such like) and we’d given it some hammer over the 8 years we’d had it.
Again, thanks for your help.
