SIEMENS WXLP 165HGB/10 WON’T FINISH RINSE&SPIN CYCLE

This machine, now 12 years old and lightly used, has always worked fine, but recently it goes through the washing programme, then when it gets to the last phase – the ‘rinse & spin cycle’ – the display indicates 001, (which I assume means 1 minute – not a fault code) but the rinse & spin cycle won’t start and the conditioner remains in the drawer. Then if the machine is left alone, after maybe 15 minutes it starts the whole programme again, and it does then complete the cycle including emptying the conditioner drawer. As an alternative, when it stalls at the rinse & spin cycle, if I switch the machine off, then back on again and select ‘rinse’ it will rinse and drain fine.

The motor has recently had new brushes fitted and a new drain pump in the hope that this might clear the fault, but that seems not to have done. Any ideas please? EG, could this be a programmer fault?
