ParticipantHi all,
We own a B&B and as you can imagine, we do a LOT of washing & drying. We also have a swimming pool where we supply shower robes and towels to guests which also need washing. Our current setup is a 5kg Bosch washer and a 7kg AEG vented dryer for the swimming pool, and a 8kg Electrolux washer and a 7kg Bosch vented dryer for the B&B linen. We’ve got a spare 5kg washing machine and 4kg tumble dryer that we haven’t installed yet – we have space next to the 8kg washer & 7kg dryer. Both spare washer and dryer are very old. Both pairs are located in different buildings, some distance away from each other. We are struggling with the throughput with the 4 machines currently in use so we want to buy a pair of large capacity washing machines and a pair of large capacity vented tumble dryers to complement he 8kg washer/7kg dryer and replace the 5kg washer/7kg dryer. Our property is standard domestic, however we have space for non-standard machine sizes. We can’t use 3 phase electricity, only single phase. To summarise:
Current situation:
B&B linen: 8kg washer & 7kg dryer
Swimming pool: 5kg washer & 7kg dryerDesired situation:
B&B linen: 8kg washer & large capacity washer with 7kg dryer & large capacity dryer
Swimming pool: large capacity washer & large capacity dryer.
Junk: 5kg washer, 7kg dryer & spare machines. We’ve looked into contracting out washing, we have figured out that it’s not cost & time effective, however we have contracted out ironing.
My initial search finds me a 14kg Cater-wash machine for £700 each, which is apparently a “commerical” machine.
However, I’m struggling to find a matching 14kg tumble dryer – the only one I can find is an Electrolux industrial dryer which is way overkill and far too expensive for our needs. The closest machine I could find is a 10kg Samsung dryer, however I suspect it’s not a good idea to move 14kg of laundry into a 10kg dryer.
My questions are:
1) Is Cater-wash a reputable brand?
2) Is this washing machine a good choice? I’ve read the UK Whitegoods article about large washing machines that they’re not actually bigger capacity than smaller machines?
3) If it’s not a good choice, which washing machine should we go for?
4) Do we need to match exactly the load capacities for both washing machine & dryer exactly, or is there some wriggle room? Many thanks and I appreciate your time!

I would look at
3LMEDC300YW
these are American built dryers. very simple and reliable design. simple to repair due to easy access to replace spares
I know its only 10.5 kg but there are thousands of these in use and looked after they go on for years.

Fab reply! Unfortunately the dryer needs to go on top of the washer, a top loader makes this impossible.
Would 14kg washer and 10.5kg dryer go well together, or does both numbers need to match?
Thank you!

reply is a bit confusing
“Unfortunately the dryer needs to go on top of the washer, a top loader makes this impossible”
I was talking about a dryer which is not a top loader ? plus you cant stack on a top loader you have to build a shelf above it to hold the item .
as for the weight differences, it is unlikely you would fully load a 14.5 Kg washer you normally run out of drum space before you do. the dryer needs more space to be able to dry. Both weights are also dry weight and its going to be a lot heavier when it comes out of the washer due to the water

Hi
The Maytag dryer like all American dryers is a front load appliance link here Apart from full on launderette industrial machines I do not know of a dryer at 14 odd kg. Washing has to be able to move freely in the drum in order to be dried this is why the capacities are less in a dryer than a washer.
As for the branding sadly I cannot advise on but others may be able to.
Having had a quick look at their website there are quite a few options of washer and dryer at the same sort of capacities on known brands like Whirlpool, Samsung and Electrolux.
Stacking large appliances like these could also pose some problems if there is not a stacking kit made by your choice of manufacturer.

Fantastic replies, thank you!
Sorry, wasn’t thinking carefully before! What I meant is that the controls are on the top at the back, so if the machine is evelated, the controls would be difficult to access.
Cheers again for replies.
