ParticipantRecently had a freestanding cooker delivered which immediately had a problem with the grill function. Basically it would come on and glow for about one minute then go off, come back on, go off etc.
The retailer agreed to replace it as the manufacturer would not come out for over two weeks. Unfortunately the replacement has exactly the same fault and the retailer has refused to address the problem saying it must be an installation issue. However I have told them that this can’t be the case as the hob and main oven work fine.
So two questions really
1. Could this be an installation issue if the rest of the functions work
2. How can I get an independent to certify it’s the cooker rather the installation. Can’t find anyone who’s keen to do this presumably because it might affect their relationship with manufacturers. I’m based Hearts/Essex borders.

Uhm, a lot of them do that intentionally, that’s how they work.
Which will probably explain why a replacement was no different as, it’s meant to be like that.

Hi
Is it an electric grill ?
If so then yes they are designed to do this due to the energy efficiency requirements…No longer is it easy to cook sausages or make toast as yo used to. The thermostat will be cycling the grill function as it is designed to do.

So what I don’t get is if it is cycling cos of the thermostat why did the manufacturer not mention this when I told them what the problem was? But strange that. Also should it really take 10 mins to cook a slice of toast (just done and that’s how long it takes). If so it’s probably an hour for a sausage!

Depends who you talk to if they even know how it works. But in the main, they all cycle on the thermostat.
It’s probably back to the old European type way where, they don’t cook using the grill, only heat stuff and not really intended for cooking. Cooking that way is a pretty unique thing to the UK outside commercial cooking.

I’ve just had live chat with their Technical Dept and they say it should cycle but if it’s doing it too quickly the “thermostat file may not be lined up correctly”. Anyone able to translate that into language I could understand?

They mean the thermostat phial and I think they’re reaching a bit there. 😉
