KeymasterI have an LG WM1280FHD washing machine. It works fine, except that it more-often than not leaves gunk/debris on the inside of the door and in the wash load, which rather defeats the object of a washing machine!
I have checked the drain filter at the front of the machine, and have changed the drain hose connection to the plumbing so that it includes a non-return valve, but this has made no difference. The door seal on this machine seems to be more prone to collecting mould and debris than previous machines we have owned, but we do keep this clean, so this doesn’t appear to be the cause.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Is there something else that I need to check and clean out?

Hi
at a guess you use either a liquid detergent or a powder or tablet for coloureds for most of your washing. ?

Hi Bryan
My wife does the washing – just checked and it looks like she uses tablets. Does this make a difference??
Thanks, Ian

Hi
what you need to do is carry out a boil wash at least once a month without any clothes in the machine or just white cottons.
Due to low temprature washes the machines are a perfect place for bacteria to grow as most people just use 40oc wash.
this should help clean your machine bt the mould on the door seal is there to stay as it stains the rubber.

Have you done a periodic hot wash empty with a small amount of detergent ?
If not, and your normal wash is 40C then it’s good practice to do this once a month or so as it clears any bacteria which won’t normally be destroyed at the lower temperatures.
Also, check the dossage of the detergent as too much or too little can also cause adverse effects such as this.
The machine itself won’t be at fault in 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of this sort of case.

We have done the high temperature wash with the machine empty a couple of times, but the problem comes back within 2/3 washes.
My wife is getting to the point where she wants to replace the machine – which is an expensive option, especially as apart from this debris problem, the machine is OK. Is it possible there could be a fault anywhere with the machine, or something needs to be cleaned out? The machine is under 2 years old, so in theory is within warranty (if only I could find the receipt!). I don’t want to get an engineer out and have to pay if it isn’t covered by the warranty.
Thanks, Ian

Then I would say it’s a detergent issue.
What are you using ? Try a good brand with seperate softener if you aren’t already and check the dosing on the packet.
If all else fails, email me a picture of the “debris”.

Have a good read of this link:-

A good close look and regular cleaning of the folds and crevices of the door seal are recommended…consider also adding ‘Calgon’ to each and every wash 😉Martin

Can I throw a comment in here ??
Where does your waste go ??, does it have it’s own waste pipe with it’s own trap, or does it plumb into the base of your kitchen sink ??

KeymasterI have the exact same problem as Ian with my LG washing machine!
I have tried all the hot washes and stuff but it still comes back. I would like to know how you got on Ian!
Cheers
