ParticipantHave just acquired a 2nd hand Bosch SGS5358GB/17 and foolishly (cos I didn’t know better at the time!) transported it home on its left side.
When I switched it on, no water was coming in.
After reading some of the posts in this excellent forum, decided to put some water in the bottom of the machine manually and, all seemed OK until programme was demanding more water.
On taking left panel off, salt deposits were all over inside of panel (where water leaked out in transit). Some deposits on the blue float switch but these rubbed off easily and switch returned to its normal resting position against the machine (I’m assuming that’s normal!). The red float switch was free to move and its float was sitting at the bottom of a dry tank. Continuity tests revealed switches working fine.
Put some water into bottom of machine manually to check how inlet maze worked. Pushed re-set and water pumped out fine. Pre-rinse worked fine, fresh cold water was being let in OK. Normal wash cycle also OK.
Put panel back on, noting that blue switch was against the machine and the red float was still on the bottom of dry tank. Gave it one more pre-rinse and all still OK.
Go to switch it on the next day and, back to square one, no water coming in.
Any ideas would be appreciated. 😥

Have you checked the base again for any signs of water in there ?
It may actually be leaking now you have run one cycle successfully.

As Dave suggests it could be leaking internally into the base. If that were the case, only the drain pump would work though and nothing else.
If I was on the case, I would take the side panel off and observe what exactly was happening on switch on?

Martin/Dave,
Took off the left panel again and spotted the problem straight away. The blue lever was stuck in the off position (i.e. away from the machine). I thought I had cleaned off all the salt residue but obviously hadn’t.
The spring in the electical switch is what resets the blue lever and, given that the lever still had salt deposits on its axis, it wasn’t strong enough to return it to the on position.
A bit more cleaning and wiggling and job done.
Thanks for getting me to open it up again!
My fault for putting the machine on its side when I transorted it.
