ParticipantI need to replace the bottom counter weight of a Hotpoint AQ9D69I. As far as I can tell I need to remove the front panel to undo the bolts holding the weight in place. How do I remove the front panel? It appears to be spot welded to the main body but maybe I’m wrong. Any help much appreciated.

Front panel does not remove, the whole drum assembly has to be lifted out of the cabinet.
What is wrong with the weight, has it crumbled in pieces or has it just fallen off?
If you are going to attempt this then I would advise removing the drum before ordering any parts, most of the time the outer drum that the weight is bolted to is damaged which would then need a complete drum assembly. 🙁

It is yet another shining example of a sealed tank unit Jim.

Thanks for your responses. Taking the drum out is too big a job for me. The machine is about 8 years old so not worth paying a tradesman. Thinking about drilling holes through the front panel to give me access to the bolts. A total botch but may be the easiest way, nothing to lose if it goes Pete Tong!

Forgot to say, the weight has cracked in half and bits have fallen off. It is still attached but is loose. The machine is making a lot of noise.

Not certain, it was a while ago now but I think I once managed to change the front weight on one of these by accessing the bolts by furling back the door seal. I am almost sure I then managed to manoeuvre the new weight into place from underneath with a bit of a struggle. Carefully lie the machine on its back and possibly remove the hose from the drum to the pump to give you a little more room.

Thank you iadom. Laying the machine on its back made the difference. Also need a small ratchet and it helps if you have small hands. Took me less than 1 hour to have machine running again. Sounds good. Probably need check the bolts in a few weeks time.
