Does any one recognise this problem? My oven is seldom used, mainly for large items such as roasts and turkeys at festive times. (Use combination microwave most of time.) Four months out of the warranty, it trips the mains RCD. I got a local engineer to visit and of course the fault could not be repeated. £30 for nothing. Hence an intermittent fault. The oven has even tripped when I open the oven door before doing anything else. Hence I checked the bulb. It turns out it is the wrong wattage i.e. 25w instead of 40w, error caused by John Lewis since they supplied it, unknown to me at the time , with the wrong bulb when I noticed the bulb didn’t work when it was first delivered. But a lower wattage bulb shouldn’t cause the fault? Can anyone help?

No the bulb wattage will have no effect whatsoever. There is a more underlying fault that needs closer inspection. Preferably with the oven out, disconnected and fully tested throughout with a Megger (aka insulation tester). Get your man back in to do that. 😀

Thanks Martin. I’ll get another engineer. He turned up 3 hours late armed with a screwdriver and receipt book.
