KeymasterI have a Hotpoint WMA33N, serial number 78117343. How can I discover the manufacture date of this machine and thus prove it must still be within its 5 year parts warranty? (Receipt has been lost).
(It has noisy bearings, I phoned the Service Centre and they are charging £94 labour, plus they won’t cover the cost of the parts unless I can produce a receipt to personally show the engineer the machine is less than 5 years old. As we bought it in Jan 2002, I don’t see how Hotpoint could even have been making them 5 years ago – otherwise it was hanging around in someone’s warehouse for at least 21 months???)

Hi There,
Date code for hoptpoint beginning 78. It was made in June 2000.
It is still under 5 years old but you will need to provide a receipt as you might of got it 2nd hand or something like that.Sparkyp

Why not get a quote from a local repairer? You will have to pay for parts but it should still be cheaper than using Hotpoint.

You are very specific about this date* AND the date code ( 78 ) will prove to any Hotpoint official that your machine IS within the guarantee period, there should be no problem for you in getting the DRUM ASSEMBLY replaced for LABOUR CHARGES ONLY!!
It is a well known, well publicised fault with these drums and drum bearings, that they cannot hold out on you in this case. Contact Hotpoint again and perhaps this time mention that you have spoken with us here on UKWHITEGOODS.COM over your plight 😉
Local repairers?…that will set you back £150 (at least) to get a new Drum fitted anyway 🙁

*How come you know that date so specifically? Have you still got the chequebook stub or maybe the old bank statement?’ cos that’s good enough anyway as proof!

“How come you know that date so specifically?”
That’s when we moved into our current house!
