My Hotpoint BHWD 129 washer dryer appears to have given up the ghost, but checking on whether there is any hope of resuscitation.

I’ve had it for almost 4 trouble free years, during which it has seen somewhere between 2-2.5 cycles per week, mostly combine wash & dry cycle.

Yesterday it stopped mid-cycle with all lights out, door locked. Pressing any of the buttons did not register any lights, was as though it wasn’t getting power. Checked the electrical supply and fuse and these were fine.

I used the little tab at the bottom right of the machine to override the door lock and got the washing out. This didn’t make any difference at first, but strangely upon cycling the mains elec switch with the door now open the machine lights sprung into life as though functioning normally. This gave me false hope that all was well! Immediately upon closing the door to run a test wash cycle, as soon as the door contact closed I heard a faint click within the machine (relay or trip perhaps) and the lights went out again, with door locked in closed position. There were no other flashing lights or warning lights apparent at any time.

Checked on here for a few easy trouble shooting suggestions and have cleared the filter (nothing of note), checked the drain line for any blockages (clear) and ensured that the mains water supply was operational. These didn’t make any difference and same result experienced – only on opening door with the little override tab and cycling the power do lights come on, but immediately out and non-functional as soon as door closed.

Is it worth opening the machine up (electrically isolated obviously) to check electrical contacts are secure and inspect for any obvious problem with PCB such as lifted circuit, signs of electrical burning?

What are the thoughts, anyone seen this before? Could it be an easy fix like door mechanism replacement or are we looking at a dead control board? Weighing up options as to whether to have someone look at this & repair or get the wallet out for a higher quality unit like Miele.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Hotpoint BHWD129 Washer Dryer – Non-Functional on Door C

Worth having a look at the door interlock and its connecting plug, a known weak point.

Failing that then it does point to a main pcb failure. 🙁
