ParticipantHi
I have a GE side by side fridge freezer that is 7 years old
Model number is: GCU23LGYAFSS on the label next to it in the freezer is another number shown as: No. MT 432905.The problem has started a few weeks ago where the fridge and freezer temperatures start to rise for no reason. We caught the freezer at only -8 instead of -18 and the fridge at +8. I turned it off at the socket and turned it on again and it seemed to have fixed it and the temperatures returned to normal but it keeps happening every couple of weeks.
Can anyone help and tell me if it is terminal or if it can be fixed. There was a noise coming from underneath a cover in the freezer section and it seemed that a fan was hitting the casing. I had a fiddle by pushing the casing in and out and up and down and it seemed to stop the noise but not sure if this is part of the same problem or not.
Please can anyone help. We love the fridge freezer and would like to keep it as we paid a lot for it but don’t want to pay a fortune to get it fixed.
ThanksAugust 14, 2017 at 6:46 pm #449665ELDAR59

Hello, the likely problem here is the freezer evaporator fan. The whole unit relies on the fan in the freezer to circulate the cold air.
It’s also possible that you need a main pcb, because fairly often the faulty fan takes the board down. You’ll need an engineer who knows what they’re doing to correctly diagnose.August 14, 2017 at 7:25 pm #449666Hartwell steve

Hi Eldar59
Thanks for your reply.
Do you have any idea what the cost of the fan and board might be?
Do you think it’s worth fixing?
Thanks

Hi Steve I’m not sure off the top of my head just how much the parts are.
If you do a search on this site, they might stock them. If not then AWS in Norwich sell them.
I’d get the diagnosis confirmed first though! -
