ParticipantI have a beko washing machine WM74155LW
The handle broke off last night and I cannot open the door to get the washing out. I have ordered a new handle but need to open the door to fit it.

The only way to do this, and it is not easy, is POWER OFF, lid off, push back the whole tank backwards, then look down to the door`s interlock ( brick red/black component ) with a torch. Get a small flat bladed screwdriver and to the left n/ end of the interlock you will just see the the door`s stricker- the metal bit- you have to then flip the metal stricker to the left and the door will then open. Not that easy to do because of the door locks plastic moulding. door handle is part number 2821580100 think that one is light grey one? If you look closely the design of the new handle is very slightly different to the original.
To replace the actual handle to the door. With a marker pen mark the door outer glass to the frame and the glass itself to the inner frame as reference points. Take off the door from the machine, 2 screws, place on a mat, then take out all the door screws and then slide a small flat screwdriver to gently prise the 2 halves of the door frame apart. Fit your new door handle making sure you fit everything the right way round. To reassemble you`ll need a piece of thin electrical wire as a pull wire to pull the handle spring at the same time you push that area of the frame halves together otherwise the handle will have no spring feel to it-impossible to put this into words. It is not very easy to do. Make sure the handle spring is set right and has “feel” and that the door stricker moves with tension. Refit the door to the machine.
Pitfalls: the door lock is seized and you cannot flip the the stricker. Other than using a junior hack saw to cut through the interlock NEAR the stricker to the right and then breaking it…..call an engineer out from this point things get a bit more difficult DO NOT PRISE THE DOOR IN DESPERATION!.September 14, 2017 at 3:22 pm #450363Lawrence

Or get a flat wooden spoon and flip the remaining stub of the door handle towards you and the door should open

……..or even a length of thin wire placed around the right hand side of the door then pull sharply to the left to release the catch in seconds. 😉

Lawrence and Martin. Nice idea but neither ever seem to work for me because of where the handle always breaks and also the plastic moulding shape of the door makes it impossible to get at the remains of the handle in anycase. Have you both actually done one of these on this specific model or is it just p*ss take time on “The Shambles” again?

I speak from experience Mr Shambles. Any tips and shortcuts we in the trade share in our ‘trade only’ forum. Time is money and if there is a quicker way to do things we are up for knowing about it. Next chance YOU get then try out our shortcuts. 😀

I repair Beko all day long and have changed so many door handles we now carry them on van stock
I can assure you that you can open the door by using an implement to activate the lever and open the door I normally use a flat blade screwdriver
And I’m not in the business of taking the p!’s as frankly I can’t be botheredOctober 19, 2017 at 5:52 am #4503681totalshambles

Thanks Lawrence. Will have a go again next time, as there no doubt will be another again at some point, and try the spoon / flat screw driver trick. Only reason seized door lock was mentioned was I had one in February and didn`t want our DIY chap to break the machine by forcing the door. Did originally have a bash with screwdriver but it didn`t work for me hence flicking the striker from the inside as described..
