After many many years service our venerable Hotpoint TN61 is almost no more.

After many many repairs, new heater, stats, filter, repairs to the door, a door (used), 2 x belts, the odd pully I think- it’s time to say good bye. The bearings on the motor are shot. They have been for a while but the time has come. If the truth be known, we were supposed to replace it over five years ago after when we got a new utility room and a WAS series Bosch WM… we just never got around to it as it kept going.

I’ve looked at and repaired so many over the years and now I need advise off the good folks who sell them.

I want a vented with reverse action probably vented but will go for a condensor.
A Miele or heat pump is just a no go. The dryer is just not used enough to be honest. I was looking at the AEGT65170 but I know the boss will make the final decision.

    Hi

The AEG and Zanussi’s are a lot better than some of the other offerings currently out there.

White knight dryers are not bad, good value and cheap to repair but for build quality etc then the AEG is the way to go.

    Thanks Don,

I was hoping you would comment. My choice is obviously from experience. The AEG/Lux group dryer tend to be more sturdy and robust. Thanks again

    .

    TN61 ????

My Hotpoint TL61 dryer will be 18 years old in November.

It has had one belt and a couple of jockey pulleys, everything else is original.

Motor bearings started to get noisy recently but after considering the alternatives I plumped for a new motor. Replaced the original plastic rear bearing and the foam seals whilst I had it stripped down, running as sweet as a nut now, good for the next 18 years. 🙂

Fixing it is the best option. Modern vented dryers not a patch on the TL61.
