I’m diagnosing a fault on a Hotpoint FF92. Fridge fails to cool. All thermistors check out OK (reported temperature, resistance, and actual temperature).

Doing the service test sequence (Holding “Save” button whilst power-on) everything checks out – evaporator fan runs.

During regular running however the evaporator fan fails to run.

I checked the (Procond) control module’s PTC overload thermistor was not open-circuit (had that happen with a previous unit). It seems that during normal operation the PTC is going open circuit quite quickly.

So I’ve removed the evaporator fan (model C09R1779) to test and it seems it’s in-rush/start-up current is around 0.36A (~86W) and it’s running around 0.24A (~57W).

These seem to be on the high side (I was expecting something closer to 10W) but not knowing what to expect and there being no information in the service manual or motor plate marking, I don’t want to replace it until I know.

Does anyone know what power draw to expect for these AC motors?

[Update] Typical! Just posted the request and decided to power-up the fan once more in the workbench and it’s now drawing 0.07A (~14.4W). I’m assuming there’s moisture getting in when it’s in use.

    Hi

Normally evaporation sensor failure.. It may read what you think is correct.

As I said, evaporator thermistor is fine.

Having stripped down the evaporator motor I found there were hairline cracks in the moisture seal around the magnet where it enters the winding block. Painted it with Plasti-Dip and refitted and working fine again now.
