ParticipantI have just replaced the thermostat on the main oven of our Britannia SI-10T6 range cooker and that has not fixed the overheating problem.
When I turn the temperature control knob I can hear it click as it goes through the oven temperature but that does not cause the temperature light to go out and the oven keeps on heating.
Any suggestions as to what the issue might be?

there are a number of answers to this problem unfortunately I have no tech info to confirm anything
1 you connected the stat wrong, I assume the old stat did the same thing. did it ?
2 the stat is an indirect stat. on some cookers the stat controls the elements directly and on a few of them the stat controls a power board that switches them on and off. if yours is this type its probably a power board failure

I did some more investigating, especially as the temperature light stayed on, and found that the return wire to the light was connected to earth. This should have been the switched line that the thermostat switches on and off but was permanently, effectively, on. Tracing the wire I disconnected the various elements etc to try and find why this wire was connected to earth. It turned out that the bottom main oven element has blown and was shorting to earth a few inches from the return terminal.
Disconnecting this wire from the bottom oven element and now the thermostat switch is working as expected and the light follows the demand for heat.
New element on order, wire disconnected and insulated so most functions of the oven are working in the meantime.November 22, 2017 at 7:50 pm #451879electrofix

you have obviously not got an RCD protecting that circuit otherwise it would have tripped
if you have got an RCD protecting that circuit its not working and needs to be checked
