ParticipantHi All,
Had my Samsung RS31DCNS in storage for 18 months and hey presto both freezer and fridge not cooling at all and remaining at room temp.
I’ve read this excellent article (damn, I love this site): http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/faul … e-freezers
After restarting it I get a flashing ‘3’ error code – R-DEF-SENSOR. It seems I can reorder this here (and also directly mentioned in article)
https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/da32000 … ost-sensor
I just want to check that this fits the symptoms and if I should do anything else given it was turned off for 18 months before I buy the part.
Thanks (as always), Chris

When you turn it on are you getting any noises e.g. Fan motor working and compressor running.
If it does not run it could be the sensor, but if it makes a noise e.g. Fan motor it may have a refrigerant leak or blockage in the refrigeration system if it was not stored or transported correctly.

Hi Bob,
When it comes on it shows the R-DEF-SENSOR error flashing and it I press and hold the power freeze/cool buttons everything seems to fire up with fans running etc.
Just checked the back of the fridge (after running for 24hrs+) and the bottom of the water tank has frozen frost around it.
What is the best way to proceed?
Cheers, Chris

Oh, and it was stored inside upright and transported upright (but obviously moved to get through doors etc).
Cheers, Chris

It is most likely the defrost sensor then.
Turn it off and allow it to defrost for 48 hours with the doors open to allow it to fully defrost.
If you feel capable then replace the defrost sensor.
If you don’t turn it back on after it has defrosted and see how long it takes for the problem to return.

Hi Bob,
So turned off for a few days and allow it to fully defrost. Turned back on and got the same R-DEF-SENSOR error. Held two power buttons for 8 secs and the fridge fired up ok. But same problem; neither freezer nor fridge got below 9/10 degrees.
Does this still suggest the defrost sensor if *both* sides failed to even get down to temperature? I’m happy to change the sensor.
Many thanks, Chris

So finally finished kitchen and fitted the defrost sensor. After 4 hours both freezer and fridge temperatures remain at 20C.
When using diagnostic it gives a R-FAN ERROR although I guess this would only account for the fridge side not working.
When power is switched on there is a loud click from the ice maker, then a few seconds later a click coming from the PCB housing where everything fires up. The compressor is hot and the fan is running. Does this point to the compressor or relay? Or should I just follow the fault code and get the fridge working?
Thanks, Chris

Correction: the Compressor is vibrating and getting hot with fan running. So I’m guessing this means the compressor relay is fine. If the freezer is not getting cold at all is this a bigger problem?
Any help appreciated.
