ParticipantHello folks….
I am currently over my parents and their electric oven has failed.
When you select the oven on…. the oven light does not come on and neither does the thermostat light. You can hear the fan running though proving power is getting to the unit.
Is this fault pointing to a thermostat or possibly a switch.
Would have thought if the element is faulty the lights would still come on but oven would not heat.
Am I on the right track?
ThanksDecember 26, 2017 at 9:33 pm #452559electrofix

correct if element has failed normally everything would but you would get no heat
1 has the unit got a clock. if its been knocked it might well be in auto off mode and need to be set to manual
2 other then that there are a few things it can be but the selector switch is the first thing to look at
A make and model can help to know what we are talking about

probably the switch. they have a very cheap oven sold by Argos ( they own the brand)
spares are not easy sometimeshttp://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/abou … appliances
site shop has a function switch listed to this model but I would check it looks the same before you order. look at the old switch and look for burnt out contacts. if its too bad and wires are also burnt you would need to be able to renew the wiring terminals as well

I cannot guarantee this part will fix your cooker as I have not seen it but its one of the most likely part to fail

Definitely the switch is at fault….
The connection at the end of the switch… which looks like the main incoming supply…. has charred… I’ve cleaned it up and it’s now working.
I’ll order a brand new spare in the meantime.
The switch you suggested looks like the one… I’ll order one once I get home.
Again Thanks for the help…. much appreciated! -
