    My Liebherr fridge decided to pack up on Christmas day, with the temperature rising to above 9C. It’s getting on a bit at 13 years old, but still a nice piece of kit.

    I have removed the fridge from the cabinet. The compressor seems to be working; the heat exchange matrix is hot at the back (with a temperature gradient). The only thing that does not seem to be working is the interior fan, though I do not know if the fan is faulty or if this is caused by a sensor problem. Is there a diagnostic mode where I can check the fan operation?

    I have a multi-meter to help troubleshooting, and any advice is gratefully appreciated.

    I’m fairly convinced it is the fan – I have attached a 12V DC supply to the fan directly, and the fan does not operate.

    Hi,
    I have come across this fault a couple of times and the fault was with the front board not powering up the fan

    Thanks for your response Tony.
    I guess the only way to confirm if this is the fault is to swap the board? Please can you advise the part number?

    I would also check that the door is closing correctly to operate the fan switch and that the fan connector plug is not corroded, and the fan switch is working.

    Thanks Tony. The light goes off when I push the door switch. How can I check the fan switch?

    Fan and light switch are one unit, so if light goes out guess switch is OK.
    Have you replaced front board yet?

    Not changed the board yet – unfortunately I’ve not had the chance to look at it for a month, which is pleasing the wife no end!
    How do I get to the front board?
    I was also planning on checking the temperature sensors, but cannot see where the cables go to after they disappear into a hole behind the cooling plate at the back of the fridge. Please can you point me in the right direction (I don’t have a service manual for the fridge).
    I also can’t find the part number 6113652 in the shop.

    There are plastic covers each end of the display panel, unclip these and you will find screws, the panel then can be pulled forward gently for access to both boards.
    Liebherr are showing no stock in the UK, but it may be available in Germany. I managed to get a board last year for exactly the same problem you have.

    I’ve pulled the panel forward and it looks like something has been getting hot – see attached image. I presume the heat is from the ERA transformer. Might that indicate the problem?
