The standard front drum bearing on these TDs has been 5 PTFE strips located around the front panel inset, the drum ran on these quietly and the gave virtually no trouble. Some genius in the design department decised to get rid of them and fit two jockey wheels at the bottom of the appliance and the rim of the drum now runs on these …………… result, as noisy as hell, the rumble from the wheels resonating through the drum can drown out a loud TV.
Merloni’s solution is simple ….. ditch the wheels and fit 5 PTFE strips etc, etc. Thank God for designers!!!
And you need to replace the belt too for some reason, presumably a stronger one. You are right, they were ridiculously rumbly. There’s a part number for a conversion kit somewhere.
Fitted one yesterday and it reduced the noise considerably. The replacement belt was THINNER than the original though. I’m still puzzled as to why you need to change the belt. Anyone got any ideas?
