ParticipantOur Neff dishwasher died last week (sob!). The repairer came today and showed my husband the problem: the deep plastic tray/coating/sleeve(?) around the outside of the base of the steel drum is bulging. Apparently water leaks cause this issue with many modern machines and it can’t be really be fixed like the older all steel style. We’d rather avoid having the same issue again but I have no idea how to find brands and models don’t use plastic for this part. All I end up with is pages of Google results for machines with stainless steel doors. Not very helpful, especially when I need a fully integrated model! Any advice please?

Hi
Neff N50 series and up have full wrap stainless steel tanks. Bosch from the same stable as Neff. Their series 4 and up are full stainless steel.

Thanks for your replies 🙂
The current model is a Neff s51e50x1gb. I take this is a lower end model than the Neff N50? So ruddy confusing! (We inherited it when we bought the house a couple of years ago.)

Yes your’s is a budget end model which is why it has the Polyinox plastic base. Bosch Neff produced these to keep to a price point below £400 originally in order to compete with other major players in the sector.
As I said previously the options with Bosch and Neff still stand.
The good news is that all other brands of dishwashers out there will have a full stainless steel tank.

Thank you so much! A cheaper model makes perfect sense given the state of the diy we found when we moved here, lol 🙂
I’ll check out those better models…

so the s/s tank that is set in to a plastic base leaks because it warps as the s/s tank warps the plastic due to heat transfer ( would have thought Bosch would have realised this in the design ), there is a seal but they are useless. I got around this problem with silicon sealant rather than buying yet again another appliance: Turn power off, remove the r/h/side metal side and you should notice where the metal tank joins the plastic base there is often a strengthening / suppose anti warping length piece of plastic that doesn`t work, remove this and clean away as much crap as possible and the run a bead of s/sealant right along and ftll the gap. Do the same for the rear and do your best for the corners. L/h/s is more tricky because of the water chamber is in the way plus the pressure switch unit but just do the best you can with you sealant gun. Allow everything to dry and set and this should work. One less piece of tosh for land fill!

But that fix only lasts a few months as we have found. We have even advised the customers against using the hot wash option.
Best solution is don’t buy one in the first place, go with anything above series 2 and everything will be good.
