ParticipantMy mother has a Hotpoint Mistrall Plus 8596 that is not now cooling.
She noticed the temperature began to rise in both fridge and freezer. Now 16 deg in fridge an freezer defrosting. There is a periodic loud click and short whirring sound.
I have vac’d out the areas that I can get at, behind front and back panels. BTW, behind the front airvent grill, the silver fins at front, bottom, right are cool to touch, fan behind them is working.
I believe the clicking may be the compressor failing to start. What is the ball park figure for either a repair or replacement of a compressor in this model? Is it a viable job or so expensive that a replacement is more sense?
Any advice appreciated.
I did a search for any engineers in the Stockport area in sth Manchester, UK but it did not show any. Any pointers hear also?
Thanks
FP

Hi Fraser,
If you get a “click/buzz” then it’s almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain that the compressor has failed and you’re hearing that noise as it attempts to start.
How viable it is to repair depends very much on its age, but it would cost the best part of £200 to replace it and it’s in no way a DIY job at all. 🙁

Many thanks for the very prompt response.
Yes it is a clickbuzz. So £200 fix or £500+ replacement…….. 🙁
The fridge must be 11 years old so I supose its done quite well.
Hmmm….

Hi these are quite a good machine and as long as the door seals are not damaged it might be worth you having it fixed. Remember if you have the compressor done you should get a 12 month guarantee on the repair. Other than door seals, thermistors and fan motors they are super if working correctly.

I have a Mistral 8596 which seems to have developed an E8 fault ie Evaporator Thermistor short cicuit……is this difficult to DIY rectify?

That depends on how confident you are at replacing the component really. We can’t give specific advice on how to replace the part I’m afraid, but it’s pretty straightforward.
The part itself is part number 2601683 at £17.21 inc VAT and delivery etc, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you’d like one ordered.
Disconnect before repairing please :zap: or if you’re unsure, check repairs@ for an engineer.
Dave.
