My John Lewis JLWM1204 washing machine is making a loud banging noise on spin, just gets loader the faster the spin. When the drum is empty I can move the drum back and forth, it bangs as I goes back. I strongly suspect bearings have gone as it is 5 years old and had at least 5 x 7kg washes a week. Bit loath to throw it if I can change the bearings. Does anyone know if the outer drum is sealed on this model or know of an easy way of checking without stripping the whole machine down

Just pop the lid off and look around the centre line of the plastic outer drum, if you see lots of screws all the way round it is not a welded drum.
At that age though it is 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain it will have a welded drum.
If you give us the product or Pnc number we could check, Pnc number begins with 914******.

Welded Drum used on this gem (part no 3484164508). Just a few coppers change out of 190 quid. 🙁

Sadly as Martin has already stated, Zanussi made with a totally sealed drum. 🙁
