Hi – i have a Whirlpool double door amercin fridge freezer.
I got it last year from a friend who has since passed away so dont have a manual and cant gond the model number anywhere on the appliance.
It was working fine when I got it and was only given to me as it wouldnt fot in with his new kitchen.
The fault is the freezer keeps shutting down giving two flashing horizontal lines where the teperature would be displayed at 18 deg. The alarm then sounds. If i silence the alarm it will eventually reset itself for half a day then knock out again.
Ive never connected the ice making pipe to the water supply and not sure if this makes s differance.
The fridge setting stays at 6 deg regardless of what the freezer does but the milk etc doesnt feel cold.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Re: Whirlpool american fride freezer

    try total defrost

switch off , doors open , 2 days

ice can block ducts that stops air coming into the fridge of a lot of American units. if it cures it for a short time it may be defrost heater fault causing ice build up

manual should be easy to find but will need the 12nc number and model to find it

Hi – have tried a defrost with doors open.
Switched back on last night and freezer alarm started sounding sounding. Pressed stand by function and left for galf hour. Pressed stand by again and freezer and fridge display came on. -18 and 5. It stayed working untill 9am this morning and then alarm started again.
I cant find any model numbers on it which I guess makes it difficult to advise.
    Thanks
    James

without numbers makes it more difficult. a lot of fridges hide them behind the salad trays

fridges are not my area of expertise but hopefully another member may have suggestions
