Participant3 years old AEG condenser dryer whistles for first 5/10 mins of cycle. Seems to be coming from the top of the door. Air can be felt coming from the small indentation in the door. If I gently press on door at that point the noise stops. Seals seem ok except the one that surrounds the filter seems a bit floppy. Any thoughts? Machine is still under 5 year warranty but because it was my fathers and he has given to me company won’t honour so any answers which may help me solve this very annoying wind whistle are very welcome! 🙂

if your dad makes the claim wont the company honour that ?
you could try a new seal

or try to see if the seal that is on will turn over

Hi Dave
Thanks for the response. I’ll take a look at the door seal, although as far as I could tell when trying to find where the noise was coming from, it seems sound. There’s a seal around where the filter slots in at the bottom of the door well, and that does seem a bit loose.
Sadly Dad is in care now as he has dementia and isn’t capable of helping me out with the warranty.Karen

sorry to hear about your dad, I know how hard that can be as a family to deal with
I am assuming the door may be twisted slightly or the seal is slightly narrower at the top so reversing it may just add a bit more pressure
also if air is coming out of the door it must be getting in somewhere as its a closed system. Not sure what you mean by the filter as there is more than 1 in most machines but if its not the internal lint filter then try playing with this filter seal to see if the noise changes

Thanks Dave
I’ll turn the door filter around as you suggest. If that works I’ll order a new one from above. The other filter I was referring to is a rectangular one that sits around the base of the internal lint filter. It’s poss the door has got twisted as I caught my 3 year old grandy playing with it 🙁 And yes there’s definitely air to be felt when the noise starts, cold at first and then warm then the noise stops as the air gets warmer. I stopped it yesterday by pushing a little bit of kitchen roll around the edge of the door just to the right of the top of the door because the noise drives me berserk! the doors on these or pretty tough but you cant under estimate a 3 year old lol so yes its possible
just looked this unit up and it seem aeg have been having problems with the door
they describe a modification because of “Due to problem with glass door tilting down”
to cure it the front panel of the dryer has to be changed along with the hinge. They produce a kit to do it. I looked up a random one and got a price of £24

this one may not fit yours so don’t just order I would need more info to get it accurateDave
