ParticipantHi all, wonder if any ideas with this one! It’s a static single oven, it’s connected to the same ring as the sockets, works perfectly until the cooling fan switches off, I’ve tested for earth faults but nothing, I’ve replaced the cooling fan thermostat, it work perfectly on grill the fan come on and goes of when grill control turned of so no problem with fan, it trips the socket protection not the main switch?
Cheers for any help AllanFebruary 12, 2018 at 10:29 am #453849wilf

not had much trouble with these except for the base element. if it’s tripping the MCB it looks more like LN short. disconnect from supply put ohm meter on and turn the switches to see
good luck

what do you mean by socket protection
RCD (with test button) or MCB (overcurrent fuse)

that’s weird its not blowing until it switches off, and then goes short circuit but, does not blow when you reset it
long shot have a look at the lamp holder had a few of them blow up on various ovens. remove the lamp will be obvious if its gone

Checked that thanks, yes it really has me stumped as it only does it when the stat turns the cooling fan off after cool down period!

I would be tempted to try a different circuit.
Is there another ring you could plug it into ?just to prove it is the oven with the fault
also this must be a live to neutral short as it would blow the rcd otherwise.
does the rcd work and is the oven controlled by it ?also did you try disconnecting 1 wire from each element and the clock (if it has one) also 1 wire from cooling fan. Then megger live to neutral

No I haven’t but will try what you have suggested, seems funny that cooling fan will work with grill and not trip when grill turned off?

did look for a wiring diag on this but have not got 1 for this exact model but the one I did find looks very simple circuit
I would also test his RCD first, if that’s faulty you will be doing him a favour as no one ever pushes the test button

Are you sure it’s blowing a mcb (l/n) short and not rcd (earth fault)?? If it’s on a ring I assume it’s fused at 13a at the plug/spur and the mcb is probably 32a? So should blow 13a first anyway. I did have something (can’t remember what) that had a poor neutral ( loose connection in spur) and that was blowing rcd when switced off. Sorry if I’m rambling on- just seems wierd!!
