KeymasterI am currently living in a rented property fitted with an Indesit WE14.
It was agreed in our contract that the landlords would not take responsibility for repairs if the machine failed, and that we were free to either pay for repairs ourselves or buy our own washing machine and take it with us when we move out.
Anyway, the machine has been fine for nearly a year of use, but the other evening we suffered a very brief power cut. My wife had programmed the machine with an early morning timed start, which seemed to be retained when the power came back on.
We left it alone and thought nothing of it, but the machine seemed to do nothing during its wash programme (No.5) other than a continuous wash cycle. There was no automatic rinsing, spinning or draining as normal. The clock on the display got to 0:00 time remaining, yet the door lock remained on. A full hour later and it was still doing this wash cycle. We reset the machine and then manually set it to spin and then drain.
Today we’ve tried another load and the same thing has happened on the same automatic programme. Clearly there is nothing clogging up the works, as the machine rinsed, spun and drained when set to do each process manually at the dial control.
But why has it stopped doing these functions as part of the automatic programme? Some advise would be very much appreciated. I am not very keen at having to get an engineer for somebody else’s equipment, and can’t really afford to buy a new machine at the moment 🙁

I’m quite surprised no error code is showing in the display, which is kind of worrying as it points to the main control pcb at fault, especially given the power off then on again which may have caused a surge and damamged it.
There’s no sure way of telling without having the correct test equipment, which would on the whole only be carried by engineers.
If you are going to have look, pull the plug 1st :zap: or check repairs@ and the directories for an engineer.
Dave.

The WE14 is part of the “evolution” range which has a 5 year parts warranty with indesit – so for around £90 they can sort it for you.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I have done the checks as suggested by the machine’s manual, but to no avail.
The load we had on at the time of writing my original post was set to manually rinse, but as soon as it completed its final spin, it resumed the initial wash cycle and wouldn’t stop! There are definitely no ‘F’ error codes on the display, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the power cut has screwed up the machine.
I am really peeved about this. To fill you in a little more, the power cut is the latest in a long line we’ve suffered, and is actually due to a fault with the electrics in the property which the landlords/letting agency are not being very prompt to investigate. So thanks to somebody bodging the electrics here I am stuck with the choice of paying to a machine that isn’t mine, or forking out for my own one! And I thought renting would avoid headaches like this 🙁
Incidentally, I checked repairs@ and couldn’t find any Indesit specialists for my postcode area (Waterlooville, Hampshire, PO8).

We’ve got the same machine as you and had this problem intermittently for sometime. The machine progressively got worse with a number of other problems: leaking water, very noisy spinning and oil leaking on to a whites wash!
The engineer called last Wednesday and condemned the machine! Luckily we have a warranty policy with Domestic & General so they have offered us a new machine. Unfortunately this is another Indesit (WIE147) and I’m really reluctant to have it. We have the option of choosing another make – I think we definitely will.
