    Hi gents,

    Looking to pick some brains.

I have a hotpoint minstral fridge freezer 8596P which I’m having a few problems with:

The fridge has started between 6C and 10C (should be 2-6)
The freezer has started running between -6C and -16C ( should be -18 to -22)

The compressor still turns on when the temperature starts to come up but doesn’t turn on soon enough! I think (but I’m not sure) that this is a thermistor problem. As far as I can see there is a green thermistor and a yellow thermistor both in the freezer section – presuming one turns the compressor on and off and one turns the fan going up to the fridge on and off.

    Questions are –

    1. Does the above sound correct?
    2. If I am correct I need to change the thermistors – do I need to change both green and yellow? I assume if the freezer is colder the fan will blow colder air into the fridge thus only needing to change the thermistor dealing with the compressor…..?
    3. Again if I am correct which thermistor do I need to change?
    4. If I’m completely off the mark could you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

The thermistors should read approx. 3KOhms @ room temp, approx. 9KOhms @ 0oC & approx. 26KOhms @ -20oC. If you get something like this, the thermistors are almost certainly OK. Personally, it sounds possibly as if there is a system issue & if I’m correct it runs on R134a & is approx. 20 years old. If so, I would not personally think it worthwhile to repair.
