ParticipantHi All,
We have a 5/6yo AEG Dishwasher and it has just started filling and draining constantly – both at the same time, it’s not thrown up an error – perhaps it would have done but I switched it off after 10mins. I assumed it was the anti-flood device so set about dismantling it to see if there was a leak etc.
I took the panel off and found this picture, is the brown stuff in the bottom transparent container typical of a dishwasher 😮 !!? We got the dishwasher with the house so don’t know it’s previous use!?
Anyway, I closed the door to see what would happen if I fired her up and it started and is now working perfectly. I can only assume tipping it reset the anti-flood switch perhaps? I’ve put it on an empty wash to try to get rid of the brown gunk…
Any advice will be appreciated! Also, if it the brown gunk needs removing, I’m not sure how to get at it… Take off the bottom panel?

Fair enough, I’ll leave it well alone! What is it? Just your typical dishwasher waste?
Do you think the anti-flood device was responsible for filling/draining at same time and can tipping it help? Or do you suspect other problem?

its part of the water softener system and its always that colour its not muck so no health hazard
type in “dishwasher water softener ” on google imagesif there is water in the base operating the overflow I would have expected a fault code but tilting it can certainly reset it by moving any water that there

Hi all,
Well it’s thrown up the same fault, constantly pumping and filling at same time, maybe pauses for 15s then does it again continually.
I dismantled properly this time and found no water and the anti-flood device to be fully functioning. Turned it on with the polystyrene float off and it did the same, checked the switch a multi meter and it works…
So, its a strange fault. Is it likely to be a control board issue?
