ParticipantHi I have a brand new Indesit Innex XWDE751480XS Freestanding Washer Dryer
Instructions were followed correctly for installation (removing transit bolts etc) and first wash was done as per instruction manual (without laundry just detergent)
However on first proper use I have an awful ‘clunking’ sound during the drying phase as water is being pushed into the detergent drawer (according to Hotpoint this is normal??)
The noise starts as soon as the drying phase begins, and it also drains water very loudly.
Here is a link to the video demonstrating the sounds being made – https://photos.app.goo.gl/IwIJA1SBQ87yFdOK2
Please can anyone tell me if this is normal… If it is, I don’t think I will be sticking with this machine very long. The person in the flat below me has already commented on how loud it is!
Thanks in advance
Diane

difficult to say but it sounds like gurgling water
does the noise come out of your sink ?
of yes it may be a plumbing problem not the machine
you can try an experiment.
disconnect the machine from the drain and put the hose in a bucket. Set it on dry if no noise then you need a plumber not a new machineDave

Hi Dave
Thank you for your reply
The clunking / banging noise is coming from the machine as it is pushing water into the detergent drawer.
The noise happens constantly for about a minute at the start of the drying cycle and then about once every 30 seconds.
I disconnected the machine from the drain as you suggested but the noise was still the same, the gurgling sound seems to be coming from the drain hose. However it is the clunking sound that is most concerning. Also my clothes are not coming out dry.
Could the problem be with the water supply (sorry I am not very technical about these things so not sure of the correct terminologies)
Kind Regards

On pulling the machine out, checking the connections to the cold tap etc all were fine. I started a drying cycle and it appears that water is coming from the hose into the machine in tandem with the clunking sound.
I understand that water is needed for the drying process but should be more like a trickle.
Is something amiss with my cold water tap / valve. The pressure.
The video below shows the start of the drying cycle and opening the detergent drawer showing the water entering.

Thanks again for any help and advice

I have just added this update to my similar thread :-
“We added a shock arrestor which made it a bit quieter (subjective observation only) and also turned down the fill tap. Combined result is that it is now a lot quieter.
With the fill tap completely off (as a test) the machine just makes a barely audible click so it is water inrush/flow stop/start that we are hearing”March 17, 2018 at 2:37 am #454658hellobear007

Thanks Andy
I actually had the Hotpoint engineer out today who said there was nothing wrong with the machine and that this sound was normal!
Once I get back home Monday I’m going to drag the machine out and turn the fill tap down and see what happens.
Is the shock arrestor easy to fit? I have no plumbing knowledge whatsoever 😳
Pushing for a refund as I don’t believe that level of noise is acceptable but doubtful as to whether this will happen.
Thanks again everyone for your help

In our case it was easy as the hose connects under the sink and there was a straight length of 22mm pipe. We just cut out a small section of pipe and fitted a “22mm tee with 3/4″ branch” then screwed in “3/4″ x 1/2″ bush” then screwed in the “arrestor”

if water hammer is your problem it might be a lot easier to fit this as it attaches to the inlet water connection

Going to pick that one up tomorrow Dave, it seems to have a lot of good reviews on Screwfix for fixing problems with washing machine noise
Will update and let you know how it goes
