Re: leaking bosch dishwasher repair kit

I’ve seen (last week) a six month old Polyon base dishwasher fitted with the right hand side and back stiffeners from the factory. I was pleased as it vindicated the side wall and back wall metal angle stiffeners I have been making and fitting to the really distorted ones for about a year. After my January last year question about the way Bosch dealt with the problems of these dishwashers leaking so frequently and what was the manufacturers own solution to the problem, the reply was that BSH were having similar failures and there was no actual fix. So I measured up and made my own brace kit and it worked after a few tweaks. Although with the patterns I tried and tested it now takes me a little over half an hour to make from scratch and fit. I was surprised to see the BSH design is using the same method and mounting points – but above all I am amazed to see a repair kit is available – not having to scratch – make them anymore is welcome.
Does it work? In a word, yes! Once the seams were resealed and braced back into their factory positions the sealed edge cannot sag outwards therefore the seal only has to cope with natural material expansion and not the weight of the lower basket, the top basket pushing the side down and the sag of the Polyon. The plastic sheet looks like the stick on water shield fitted to some of the models to protect the module and the ‘wiper blades’ sometimes appear on some models yet serve no real purpose without the bracing bars. I presume like the others these fit on the side lip of the tray and press against the stainless body. I’ve used oven silicone all along the joints with no wipers fitted and had no issues. The longer spray arm must be an attempt to raise the spray jet above the seal line as the original was almost directly firing hot water at the seam.
I keep in contact with some of the regular customers of the dishwashers I have modified and even the first one I did (my friend’s machine) is holding up with no noticeable movement (12 + months) Good result and maybe with this kit the fault can be eradicated so we can recommend Bosch again.

Just got to get the heatpumps right now………… :rolls:

great reply Steve. Look forward to fitting my first one…..
How come there is no mention or parts in the kit for repairing the 3rd side under the air break? Do they not leak from there then?

The airbreak tends to stiffen the left side but they tend to leak from the vent and lower nozzle. Seal them both with heatproof silicone refit and all’s well. I also reseal the tub seam before refitting the airbreak – just my ‘belt ‘n’ braces’ approach.
