I have just bought a new Samsung fridge freezer (RB31FERNDSS) and after 1 day of operation there is a strong chemical smell coming from the back and side of the freezer. Samsung won’t send an engineer until next week and the seller won’t replace it until Samsung have looked at it. They have just told me to turn it off in the meantime. I’m trying to work out if this is refrigerant and potentially dangerous? The fridge freezer hasn’t dropped temperature at all and appears to be working well. Is it normal for a new machine to give off any kind of smells in the first few days of operation? Not sure it I’m overreacting or if there is a serious problem.
I doubt it is refrigerant. the refrigerant is a gas and it is under pressure and most of them are highly flammable . There would have to be a hole in the pipe for it to leak out and it would still leak even when unplugged
difficult to say could be just newness if you could email me the smell I may be able to help but since that cant happen I would leave it off to be certain
cant hurt to get them to come out and check it
I have found recently quite a few nasty niffs in appliances we have unpacked for display from dishwashers to washing machines and fridges and freezers. Leaving the door(s) open overnight certainly gets rid of it.
