Customer called the firm I work at ( I’m the only engineer) Bush dishwasher not heating…reluctant to pay £24 c/o charge but booked.
Go there next PM with the lad who helps us out lifting and such (ooooo me pooor back) and enter the house…..kitchen is a minger with dishwasher absolutely…well not hygenic. Place utterly stinks of dogs 😕
Get the dishwasher out and lie it down. As soon as i take the base off my ticker starts ramping up with an old problem so I check the element and it’s o/c, let him know I need a trip to A and E.
I ‘m taken to Blackpool Vic going 205 bpm, me oppo stays till 6 then goes back to the customer picks up tool bag etc lets them know the diagnosis and says we’ll get back with a price.
Now I’d have measured up the heater and fitted pattern but wasn’t there so with the model number we had for it, no suppliers showed any parts. So rang the customer back to let him know the score, that we couldn’t find the parts listed and that if he wanted a new dishwasher we could always supply. Call out charge was then asked for at which he kicked off (knowing full well it was to be paid). Paid in full, one unhappy customer but he knows the script about me.
Anyways up, I get out of hospital 10 days later to find he’s put a Google review calling us rip off merchants for charging the call out, and that we’d tried to sell him a new machine rather than repair, and that he’d looked on the internet and found the part required and fitted it himself. No mention of the engineer being taken ill at their house (probably allergic reaction to the smell of dogs) and after giving them the diagnosis though….
We’re still trying to word a reply to him :fire: :fire:
    Some people eh!!!

its ok they think that living like that is normal. the fact that the rest of us find it horrifying is a concept alien to them

you could sue them on the grounds that the polluted air in their house had caused you enough distress to aggravate your condition lol

At the end of the day, as long as you are ok that is all that really matters. Just not worth getting strung out with assoles like this. 🙁

    Re: What a winker

    I have had a few

had one that refused to pay on the grounds that he now had to buy a new machine

although you feel like chasing these people in a lot of cases its not worth the effort but one day they will need you and you can say no. And I have done that and it felt good

You told him the charge up front (very cheap) he moaned, this bozo was and always will be a waste of time. I know trade is poor but your on a hiding to nothing with people like this and with your obvious health issues do yourself a favour and decline the call. You got hard work aggro and a nasty taste he got a free diagnosis which he doesnt even consider requires skill.
hope your soon on the road to better health.

    best regards wilf

Cheers all, the call out charge is just that with labour added later. We still get ”swipes putting the phone down when you mention it.
Thanks for the good wishes, hopefully last of it now I’ve been ablated :eeek:

    Re: What a winker

I work the same way. had a charge to call out from the beginning (40 years ago). It put off the sort of people who would call 3 or 4 engineers out just for estimates when there were a lot of no call out charge engineers
I also try to refer to it as an inspection charge as some customers think you just knock on the door to get paid
