ParticipantHi
I noticed under the lid of this AEG 72630 washing machine that there appears to be 2 level sensors.
One is the “analog” sensor clipped to the side, but there is another one clipped to the main cross piece. It is round with a multy wire connector and a few screw adjustment points. it is also fed by a hose to the bottom of the drum as is the analog one.
Any one any idea what the purpose is for these 2 sensors.

the second one is digital and is more sensitive. the analogue one can only sense various levels but the digital one can sense much smaller increments
it is likely the analogue one protects the heater from coming on with an empty tub as this switch can switch high ac currents

Thanks Dave
I must admit that I was confused that there should be 2 separate “fill” sensing devices.
All the posts as regards the machine halting with water in the drum refer to the analog sensor with no mention of the digital one. Even the Y Tube demos class the analog one as the fill sensor with no mention to the digital one, yet E Bay refer to the digital one as a fill sensor. Very confusing. Pity there was not an AEG service chappie who could give a definite answer on the jobs of these 2 different sensors.

to be honest they both work together sometimes and there is one fault
“incongruity between digital and analogue pressure switch”
the question on my mind is why do you need to know? have you got a fault ?

hi Dave
To be honest I’ve kept this machine going for years. It’s had a few controllers and pumps/inlet valves but recently it started not to pump out and stops at its rinse cycle. It did not help that the front panel switches were packing up and we had to spend quite a few minutes pressing before the machine would start up on the separate rinse setting, or pump out.
I decided to change out the front panel and the controller. All seemed fine for the first day then the wife said that it had stopped again and not gone into its rinse cycle. It then made me think maybe it was due to one of its sensors. So that is were I am now. I have loads of spares for this machine and as long as the bearings hold up I shall try to keep it going. (on my last controller board )
From what I’ve found out the analog one mainly senses the levels during the various washing cycles and the mechanical one is sort of acting as the safety back up checking on over foam/boiling etc and comparing results with the analog one.
I’ll probably open it up and make sure that the analog pipework is clear. If that doesn’t fix it I’ll change the module itself.
I like this machine as most parts are still findable and it’s well made. The wife wants me to ditch it but from what I can gather the new reasonably priced machines are not to the same build quality. I do like “made in Germany” but so few are made there except the expensive ones.

the machine will normally display a fault code as it fails and this can help you find the fault.
It can also be put in engineering / service mode to test components and display the last fault codeslook on utube there is a lot of how to vids on there

Many thanks Dave for your time.
Ps
If you have a spare controller for this machine that you want to sell on give me a bell.
