ParticipantHi,
The above dryer keeps stopping and often won’t start at all and the problem has gotten worse as time has gone on.
When the start button is pressed the drying lights go on and sometimes if you whack it hard enough it will start.
I was thinking brushes but I opened it up and it will start if I wiggle the ribbon connector that connects to the PCB.
I gave it a good clean out, wiped contacts on PCB and hoovered the ribbon cable connector and all seemed well but it starting playing up again not long after.
Sometimes if it won’t start you can hear the buzzing of the motor trying to start.
If it does start and then stop a burning smell can sometimes be apparent when you open the door which is obviously concerning.
If this is likely to require a new PCB I’ll probably just replace the dryer but hopefully the fault is something less costly.
Any help much appreciated.

sounds like it may be the motor capacitor from what you are describing. if the drum does not turn unless you give it a push then this is most likely

Turning the drum when it stops has no effect.
Just having another look at it now and it seems I can wiggle the control board anywhere to get it started again.
This is accompanied by a mad clicking of relays before it jumps back into life.
Dry joint?

could easily be dry joint. look at the larger components first. relays first

Found two suspect joints between relay and board. Soldered up and machine whirring away. I’ve resoldered a relay on this machine before but can’t remember what the symptoms were. Probably the same issue.
Fingers crossed that’s it sorted.

Induction motor, ergo no brushes. 😉
