We have a Bosch WTA4007GB/02 dryer that makes a whistling/squeaking noise for a minute or so when first switched on but the noise then disappears and the cycle completes normally. Sounds as though a bearing has dried out or needs replacing?

Can anyone tell me how to replace the rear bearing, I’ve located where it is by removing the lid and some of the back panels from the machine but it doesn’t seem easily accessible? Is there a schematic drawing or a service manual available to download anywhere?

Thanks in advance for any help.

on you machine there are 2 idler pulleys tensioning the belt. these pulleys turn quite quickly whilst the rear bearing turns slowly with the drum,
If you listen to the squeak and try to determine if its repeating quickly or slowly

my first guess would be the idler pulleys but they are not cheap so if yours are faulty you might try lubricating them

    Thanks electrofix,

I think you may be right, the whistling is fairly quick and cyclical, possibly faster than the drum rotation.

Is it easy to get to the idler pulleys? Would 123 oil or grease be best as the lubricant?

don’t think you can dismantle to grease so light oil would be best
