Okay so we’re off and running thankfully.

Now we have to decide what we want to train on to a degree. My first thought is to wrap up detergent technology in with basic wash technology, i.e. how it actually works at a very basic level up through the detergent and mechanical processes involved. This should make it more interesting and there’s even some old hands that should learn a lot from it. So, in essence we rip the wash cycle apart and explain it all from start to finish both mechanically and chemically.

We also (well me most likely) want to get it onto some form of training DVD as well, we may as well get ahead on that score from the get-go and get it across that we’re going down the multi-media route. DVD mastering, so long as it’s not on a huge scale, I can do here and make it look pretty nice. One of the benefits of pirating shit is you learn how to make it look original. 😉

The other nice thing about that is that it won’t cost a lot to do it at all, a few blank DVDs, some paper and ink.

It also forms a cornerstone of a more advanced idea or two that I have for the future and it’s best to learn before moving it up a gear.

So the first training session becomes “Wash Technology 101” and that should make it even more relevant.

    Thooughts?

To a degree you have already proved the ability to produce quality presentations as at Sibson with the powerpoint one you did there.
It’s only a case of including video, backgrounds, and voice over’s.

The hard part will be to convince engineers and their boss’es that they actually know very little about the washing process. Sure, we all know how to fix the machines but we actually know squat about either the complete process and even less about which powder to recommend for the different fabric’s and types of stains.

I thought I knew all there was to know until I went on a Miele course
and they showed a brief film show at the end of the training on detergents. probably supplied by P. & G.

DVD is the right way to go but how do you get the info across without insulting your average UKW member, who has convinced himself over the years that when it comes to powders, it’s a case of one size fit’s all. when we know it dont.

It’s goin’ to be a case of the age old addage of ‘it’s not what you say but how you say it !’

That said I’m pretty sure that P & G will have something on the shelf that you will be able to use.

Another thing, will be tryin’ to convince business owners to keep their engineers of the road for a morning or an afternoon to attend training on detergents. There will have to be some kind of sweetener in there for them if the uptake is to be successful.

Still i’m sure you guy’s have already thought this one through as well.

    best of luck

Yes Sean we have thought about it which I’m sure won’t come as a shock to you.

But this is really just the start, there’s loads more to come and I fully intend seeing the independents as being the first choice for anyone due to teh high skills we have. What we’re trying to do here is give the guys the tools to be a success commercially and then we can move on to qualifications if it’s needed, i.e. we’re putting the horse before the cart. Also once it reaches a critical mass, the trade cannot any longer be ignored or simply dismissed as irrelevant by manufacturers and networks alike. But we have to give the guys the tools to control their own destiny and become better through better knowledge amongst other things, like a better financial landscape for themselves.

It will take work by everyone, of that there’s no doubt, but then the rewards are and will be there in time.

Already we have done Repairs@, it’s a success and there’s a LOT more to come with that if I get my way.

We’ve pushed up the rates, another success.

We’ve gotten rid of almost any hint of a shitty contract, another success.

Now it’s onwards and upwards. We’ve done a lot, but there’s a lot more to do and we sure as hell ain’t resting on our laurels.

As far as training goes we do have an inportant consideration to inject into this. Our washer.

As well as the core training module (detergent) we will have to quickly tour the country doing sessions on our appliance, using Primary agents venues where possible. This will have to be a priority as it achieves hands on for the guys but also gives us an intro into the independents we don’t know at the moment.

What with the management of the core module and our appliance sales and training, I don’t think we will have room for much else this year.

I think we would be better organising what we have planned rather than introducing more before we are ready. Agreed that DVD’s are the way forward and if you recall IW and AJ mentioned them a couple of meetings ago.

Its very important that we do this extremely well and as ever that requires good management, first. Remember that we will have huge costs associated with ACH and promotion of our appliances along with Database requirements. On top of that we have Spare sales and storage vehicles to consider, as disscussed at BM2.

What I’m saying is don’t jump too soon, lets follow the plan and the budget until Sibson where we will need to re-avalueate and assess the next period in depth.

Yeah Kev, I’m thinking a bit laterally here in that I could get PG to think along designing the course in the way that I’m thinking, giving a unique twist on it and making it of far more strategic long-term value to us as well as them.

I think I’ll suggest it and see what bounces back, what do you think?

I think they’ll go with it, the way they normally jump at the chance of creating new stuff like this each time we’ve met 😀

Any chance of an update Ken, as to just how many W.P.’s have been willing to put their money where their mouth is as regard’s chippin’ in to the Corgi training inituative.

A lot of them seemed quite interested at Sibbson, but how many have backed it up with a cheque ?

It seems to me to be a missed oppurtunity if they are only willing to give jollies to the sellected few, rather than help to improve the skills of the majority of the trade, not to mention the UKW membership.

That’s a slightly different project Del, but they will cross over at some point 😉

So far, regarding the presentation you did at Sibson, Lux have offered their training facilty at Milton Keynes for the initial meeting on the 23rd of this month.

Definite attendences to date are, Steve Clarke (Lux), CDA, 2 from D&G and I have to call Tony Brown from MFI as he tried to get me and left a message on my ansaphone.

    Updates as and when 😀

np ken with the lateral thinking…..

As dave says PG have always listened when we’ve met. We both know they’re on with the design off the module and our input will be required at some stage …without doubt.

We have to schedule for the next meeting …..

    Kevin

PS at Rotherham then!!! A morning meeting 1000 hours?
