Mine is on the fritz! Looking online a replacement Samsung will cost an arm and a leg but the cheaper ones are brands like Hisense and Fridge master who I have never heard of. Anything I should look for or avoid?

Is that avoid both of them?

I’m loathe to spend money fixing an appliance that is quite a few years old. It would be costly in terms of parts and labour and time getting someone in so if this goes again I will just replace it.

I know to avoid Indesit (now Hotpoint as part of that group), and Bush so there really don’t seem that many mid range products. I’d expect to see something from Hoover or Zanussi or Bosch but they don’t seem to be cropping up but I’m finding Kenwood who I thought were kettles and stereos and brands I have never heard of! The one I have now was about £600 and wasn’t the cheapest but was a long way from expensive, the known name ones now seem to be almost a grand. I don’t need a plumbed one and, to be honest I am ambivalent about a cold water dispenser as they are a faff to keep clean compared to a simple filter jug.

The RS series from Samsung is all but obsolete now, many parts you cannot get so in my opinion, not worth spending much on them.

But do take the time to read that article and that will explain what you are seeing.
