I’m looking for a new fridge freezer with a large freezer and I really like the AEG S70388. However, one thing worried me when I looked at the freezer drawers. The drawers slide on the freezer shelves which are the cooling racks and not on runners at the side. The bottoms of the drawers were being scratched by the shelves even though they were just empty ones in a shop display model. I’m worried that when the drawers are filled with food, they will be heavey and cause a lot of wear and tear on the bottoms. Also, is there a danger of the drawers getting stuck if the frost builds up slightly? I don’t want to be defrosting every few weeks.

Is there anyone who has an AEG freezer with a similar drawer design that could let me know how they’re getting on with it.

    Thanks

Re: Question about AEG S70388 freezer drawers

This is a top of the range appliance which should give you many years good service. Bear in mind the number of times you would visit the freezer in your`e home probably no more than once a day I would suspect so wear and tear would be minimal . We don`t know how long the retailer has had the appliance in stock nor the number of times the drawers have been pushed in and out.

Another option would be the AEG S75388KG 8.7 cu ft fridge and 4.9cu ft freezer which is frost free and would not have the freezer bars between the baskets therefore no scuffing, however the price does rise sharply 😉 .

Thanks for the reply Don. The S75388 freezer is much smaller and the cost is too high.

Typically I visit my freezer several times a day and I’m worried about how well the drawers will slide when fully loaded. The empty ones in the shop didn’t slide very freely.

This fridge freezer costs an awful lot of money, but I can’t find any other that has as many features that I want – large freezer, twin compressors, good sized fridge and twin salad drawers. However, before parting with my money I need to be reasured that in practice the freezer drawers are not a problem.

I went ahead and ordered the AEG70388 from Currys and have just had it delivered. Unfortunately it’s got some large dents in the side that will be visible. I’m pretty upset and Currys say that it will be up to two days before someone gets back to me to arrange delivery of a replacement. It’s a good job I’ve still got my old fridge freezer and I didn’t get Currys to take it away. However, I’ve got this huge fridge freezer in the way in my kitchen for goodness how long.

How could Currys allow such an expensive fridge freezer to be damaged during delivery?

It probably wasn’t Currys fault to be fair, it could have happened anywhere between the factory and your house.

Until it’s unpacked no-one will have been able to see the damage.
It’s a pain I know but it happens occasionally 🙁

I managed to get Currys to take away the damaged fridge freezer today and deliver a new one on Saturday.

Pity they only sent one man to pick up a 2m tall appliance. The poor bloke really struggled and there’s quite a few more dents in it now.
