ParticipantHi All,
Just came across this site. I help some guys from time to time with repairs to PCB’s on various makes of machines. Recently my whirlpool dishwasher displayed an F4 fault code so I checked out the drain pump first thing. All seems fine there. I can see the machine draining water when I first power it up. Sometimes after I clear the code the machine will appear to operate correctly but will not take any water into it, so I also checked the inlet valve. All OK there. This can be intermittent also. The only thing I have replaced so far is the optical sensor in the sump. It might be worth mentioning that I can hear some relays engaging on the PCB but nothing appears to happen. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.September 3, 2018 at 2:22 pm #457692electrofix

have you checked the wiring? its common for the wires to break at the bottom of the door with repeated bending and could also explain being intermittent

Thanks Dave for your reply.
I will check now as it’s here in my workshop. This machine is about 4 years old and gets used about once a week so I did not look for wear and tear at this stage. I will post my findings.
Thanks again.September 4, 2018 at 1:09 pm #457694hs5424

UPDATE,
Checked wiring as suggested and all appears ok. At present the machine is now not letting any water in. The inlet solenoid is ok and reads about 3K ohms which I have confirmed by comparing with a similar one in the machine. I also metered out the two brown wires from the inlet solenoid back to the pcb just in case I missed a break. When I select a 45 min wash cycle I can hear the on-board relays clicking but nothing happens. After about 3 min’s the display goes blank. At present I am not getting the F4 fault code which was the original problem.September 9, 2018 at 11:33 am #457695hs5424

Forgot to mention.
The machine only seems to run the drain pump for a very short while when program is selected and will not let water in. Anyone any ideas please.September 9, 2018 at 12:48 pm #457696electrofix

you may have to run the test cycle to calibrate the new owi

Many thanks for the test prog information, however when I follow the instructions it returns an F4 fault code again. Tried it many times and on one occasion it reported F6 code. I checked the main washer motor and it is spotless and not jammed with debris. Pulling my hair out with this one .

Hi,
I am wondering at this stage is it worth trying a new control pcb. So stubborn I don’t want this one to beat me.September 21, 2018 at 11:07 am #457701electrofix

difficult to know where to go now
unfortunately I cannot access the tech anymore so cant even get a part number for the board
if you do decide to buy a board make sure its the correct one for the 12NC number (not model no) and also check if its pre programmedyou could always look on ebay for poss second hand part

Thanks Dave.
I will price up a board locally and make a decision. Strange problem as originally it would let water in but later give me the F4 code. Now it just empties any water in the system and apart from the sound of a relay clicking, thats it.September 22, 2018 at 5:14 pm #457703hs5424

Hi Dave,
Had a look at the board today to see if there are any signs of capacitor or other component stress etc. All seems ok. I traced the brown wires from the water inlet valve and discovered that Tr5 which is an ACS108-6S (voltage protected switch ) is responsible for driving the inlet solenoid. So as the machine did not have this problem originally I suspect that A, the board software is corrupt and not driving this switch or B, I somehow cleared it’s program. Do you know if these can be re-programmed by a service person or is a new board the only way forward. -
