Hello all,
Hope someone will be able to assist us please – we think it all started with our new bale of towels from Debenhams… which as soon as we started to wash and dry them, there was significant amount of lint being left on the porthole – eventually, the machine would not dry at all.
So onto my first ever attempt in trying to fix a washing machine/dryer;
My first step was to press reset the thermostat – which worked briefly – but soon stopped working again.
I then opened the heater housing – which needed to be prised open, due to the black gooey sticky sealant. The amount of lint inside was incredible, which my wife and I we eventually able to clean out.
I closed the heater housing, but didn’t have any black gooey sticky sealant – and had a sneaky feeling this would come back to bite me – and it has!
The machine washes fine – and ultimately does dry, but keeps beeping and pausing through the dry cycle – which from googling, I suspect is due to heat leaking out of the heater housing due to lack for sealant – causing the machine, due to overheating to suspend go into pause/protection mode.
Couple of questions!
1. Is the problem due to the lack of black gooey sticky sealant?
2. What is the black gooey sticky sealant – and where can I buy some from?!
Any help is greatly appreciated

could still be an airflow problem
did you look at the condenser to make sure that’s clear as well. If the heater was that clocked chances are its blocked elsewhere as well

Did you clean the fan blade as well? It’s definitely a airflow issue as Dave has mentioned.

Hi Kaibart,
I’ll double check condenser and fan, as I could have missed some – as the amount of lint we took out was incredible – almost a towel in itself!
As I’m pulling the machine out and opening it – I want to replace the gooey/sticky sealant/gasket at the same time – any idea what it is – or what else I could use please?
I was thinking of using something like Vital Black RTV Gasket Maker (85gm) from Machine Mart (Temperature Resistant 315ºC) – but not sure if this is suitable?

No need to that has to come apart to change the fan and Hoover don’t use sealant to seal back together. I wount have the heater back off again and take the inlet hose which supplies water to the machine off and use that hose to flush water through the condenser

Having had alot of problems repairing these recent Hoover washer dryer machines with the sealed tank/condenser units. It has occured to me that at the bottom of the condenser where there is a sharp turn U where the air is drawn up by the fan from the tank that there MIGHT BE a hidden uncleanable gauze or something there rather than just a simple hole. I could be totally wrong as I am waiting for a recent write off ( front weight shearing off, as they are apt to do ) to cut through the tank / condenser to investigate one way or t`other. If there is a gauze, as I suspect there is one, this will be a major problem. Not proved as yet.
Yes I`ve tried shooting water via i /let pipe trick down condenser unit which does not seem to work, the fan blade light clogging does not work either, the amount of air being pushed through the door seal is often weak = o/load stats click out due to o/heating but that could be simply the fan wattage is gutless – I`ll check. Someone somewhere in the design has screwed up good and proper and I`m pretty convinced at least presently that I may well be on the right tracks, we`ll see, if I`m wrong I`m wrong!Re: Heater housing on Hoover Washer Dryer Model WDXA C68562B
Gauze? Don’t waste your time mate, there’s no such thing fitted.

Hi Martin. Have you actually cut one of these sealed tanks up to have a look? There must be a reason for poor air flow other than a gutless fan motor or o/load stats rated too low a temp . If there are no blockages anywhere else surely that only leaves one place left to investigate. I`ll let you all know when a write off comes my way and if there is a gauze that is getting blocked I`ll post the pictures or send the cut out piece of tank to Ken. If there is no gauze then I will say so.

Many thanks for all your suggestions and apologies for my delay in getting back – I’m pondering the options, as given my limited skills in this area – it looks to be more complicated than I thought, I was hoping it was just a matter of resealing the heater.
