Help needed, I have a Tricity Bendix WDR1040W washing machine, in which the motor won’t turn the drum during the wash or drying cycle?
This is an old model washing machine I know but it belongs to my mum and has done absolutely nothing over the years just sat idlel i’d bet it hasn’t been used 20 times. now as she’s in her eighties she’s looking to use it now.
I have confirmed some operations by process of elimination, the brushes have plenty left in them and the motor works. I removed it and by hard wiring it up to the mains, it runs just fine, the door lock seem to be functioning as when switched on the lock operates the door lock and enables the cycle to start by filling the washing machine (too i take it, the appropriate level) and then turns the water off, upon manually turning the timer the pump activates itself and pumps out. The drying function also seems to work as well, when switched to drying the heating fan and heater fire up and the drum begins to get warm. So all seems normal just the motor just does not turning the drum during any cycle, I have no idea how to really check the timer only that it’s ticks away or the PCB. both of which seem very expensive for an old washing machine?
Sorry for such a long post but help is definitely needed and its shame to dump it considering it hasn’t done much work. And in all honesty trying to save my mum buying a new washing machine and on the other hand not to waste money on parts not needed?

there is an electronic circuit on the timer on this machine that does a few jobs.
1 it controls the speed of the motor
2 it advances the timer when necessary and controls the motor on the timer that reverses the main motor
chances are your fault lies on this board. you can either replace the timer or get it repaired
you also say you checked the motor by putting it on the mains. did you connect the motor to include the field coil as well as the armature when you did this. Testing it with a multimeter would have been far safer and just as productive. also to be certain the motor would be able to turn it is necessary to check the motor from the timer connections. That way you not only check the motor but also the wiring loom as these can go faulty

I did check the motor with a meter (ohms) before wiring it up, I just don’t understand the numbers, ranging from 0.2 to 6.4 ohms,
I have eight wires + earth
2x red (tacho) 70.6 omhs
Green x Blue (brushes) 6.2 omhs
2x white ( ? ) 0.2 omhs
Black x Grey ( ? ) 1.3 omhs,Thanks for the suggestion of checking the wires from the timer, but I think that is beyond my skill set, I can’t get the light of the torch to follow the wires, let alone know which wires are which at the Timer,
It’s something I’ll definitely check WHEN I’VE SMASHED IT TO PIECES !
I’ve also discovered a small PCB at the bottom of the washing machine which seems damp, seeing how my mum’s kitchen has a very damp floor and walls I am starting to believe that years sitting idle in this environment it may be the cause of the problem. And is the machine just beyond repair due to cost? I could buy a washing machine for less than £300 and it’s Brand New

wiring on motor is ok. you have
2 wires for Tacho
2 wires for armature
3 wires on field coil. third wire is for a speed boost on spin and you will get some very low resistances but its unlikely to be a problemdon’t know what the small pcb you have found is so don’t know what it does. some very early Zanussi machines (includes Bendix) had a motor control board as well but the model you have given me does not list one. The motor control on later models was integrated into the timer
there are firms out there who will check and repair timer and module problems
