I have had the above fridge for slightly less than three years, and every 9 or so months the fridge just starts getting warm. I have had it repaired twice under warranty, when the problem has always been ice building up behind the freezer, preventing the fridge being cooled. I have watched them do it twice and feel confident I would be able to do it myself, BUT I can’t work out how to get the back cover off. The front one comes off easily, but the back one seems to be stuck at the top. I am aware that the wiring needs disconnecting, but can’t work out how to free it.

The safest and simplest way to get rid of the ice is to switch it off for 24 hours with the doors left open. Keep an eye on the drainage tray at the rear though, don’t let it overflow.
There is an underlying problem here though, this should not keep happening unless the door is being left open accidently.
If the repairs were carried out withing the last 12 months I would encourage you to ask them to return and rectify the fault.
If not, then check repairs@ and the directories for an Independant engineer who will diagnose and rectify for you 😀

Thanks Dave, I have had it repaired twice, once by Comet after 9 months, who defrosted it with a hairdryer, and fitted a new panel with fan, etc. The second time was by Expert Appliance, 9 months after that who defrosted it with a steam stripper, and also fitted a new freezer door. That was in January last year (2004), now the warranties have run out. If I can find somewhere to put all our frozen food in I will go the slow way, but it seemed easy to do, just can’t work out how to get the inner panel off.

I have this fridge to and exactly the same problem ocurred just after the 2 year gaurantee expired. We can’t even find anyone to fix it and we are almost buying a new one.
Could you let me know what the problem is – as you are one step ahead of me!!

Hi, we bought a Samsung SR L3916B just over 2 years ago and it worked perfectly until we moved house about a month ago. The freezer is fine but the fridge now seems to have a mind of it´s own, some days it is room temperature other days it seems to be chilling things. I´ve noticed it making an odd noise as thought the interior light is constantly clicking on and off, I tried taping the catch down so it is constantly off but the clicking noise still persists. It occasionally seems to be blowing cold air out of the holes at the back of the fridge compartment so I´m guessing that it could be something to do with the thermostat?
My wife is already window shopping for a new one but in all honesty I had the cash earmarked for some 17″ alloys – so any suggestions along the lines of “Just turn it off for 2 days and it will be as right as rain” would be gratefully received.Also, after moving I just plugged the thing straight in, I read somewhere it has to sit in the kitchen for a bit first, like a new cat – could that drastic error have been the catalyst to the “cold yoghurts” versus “shiny wheels” dilemma I´m now facing.

We have the same issues – the noise is caused because the fridge is either not level OR i have found that it needs to lean back or forwards – when the noise is happening adjust the legs and the noise either gets worse or goes away…it is like a vibration…i know how you feel it does your head in.
As to the light – i have put a thin block of wood with tape over it on top of the door – this is not ideal but does sort the problem…!
