    Hello,

I would really appreciate if someone could advice me about our aging dishwasher Indesit 450.

It all started some time ago when after the usual cycle which ran over night we found that the dishwasher melted some plastic kitchenware which were stuck on the tray above the heating element + burn smell (probably because one of the melted plates “dropped” to the heating elements directly). The LEDs 3 and 5 were flashing.

We didn’t use the dishwasher for a couple of months. Now I finally started investigating. When I ran just rinse program (no 5), it loads water, then there is a buzzing sound but the water doesn’t move (no sprinkling) and after some time it drains the water and finishes without an error. When I ran wash cycle, the water loads but again doesn’t move and the chamber gets really hot (>85 C) with the element glowing hot. At that point I turned it off.

From what I understand, it might be the main motor not pumping the water. Is the overheating due to the same issue (water doesn’t go over the heating element to cool it down) or is it something different?

What would you recommend? Does it make sense to try to fix it on 14 years old dishwasher?

    Thanks a lot!

    two possible silly faults

1 motor jammed. sometimes the motor just stick. At the back end of the motor you can insert a screw driver and turn the motor (blue arrow) . if its jammed carefully work it till it frees off. normally caused by the water seal jamming

2 capacitor .(Red Arrow) this is an early machine and the motor is started by a capacitor. these are a regular fault and a cheap fix

    Thanks, Dave!

As you advised, I tried turning the motor with a screwdriver and it went quite easily so I will exchange the capacitor and see what happens. I ordered it online and it might take a couple of days before I come back with the results.

If you have any further hints, let me know.

    Thanks again!
