    Hi,

I have a Hotpoint DC28 which is refusing to start. The last time it was used resulted in a mini pool of water on the floor and it didn’t sound right either. Now if I switch the power off at the wall then switch it back on again it makes a humming noise for about a minute (which sounds normal) then the prewash light flashes continually but nothing else happens. It does this in all wash cycle settings including change setting. The instruction manual suggests this is an error code – as this is the first light on the left I assume it is a fairly common error. Could anyone tell me what this error code means and/or what might be wrong with it please?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

    Dave,

A humming noise usually means that the drain pump has jammed? The “humming” you refer to is a like 50 cycle (mains transformer type noise) I would imagine?

Normally on switch on you should instead hear a pump motor running and water trickling down the drain. If not, that’s your problem and if you need us to sort an engineer to fix it for you, simply click on this link:

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I would say the sound is like a 50Hz mains transformer and I don’t hear any water going down the drain. I’m going to try a few things and will let you know what happens.

    Cheers,

    Dave.
